I am a journalist — that is, I was a reporter for twelve years. For someone with my background, this was a big deal. Here I was, this small-town barrio girl, living in New York City and making gobs of money. Then some people flew a plane into a building, and my whole perspective on the world changed. So I became an educator. I became a teacher in order to give back what so many had given to me: a quality education. I am still a journalist, but now I write about what’s important to me — children and adults being given the opportunity to liberate their minds and change the world.
