We are journalists. We are proud of what we do. We are tired of bad press about the press. We are trying to be "team players." We are terrified of more layoffs and paycuts. We would like to produce quality work without 'obamasux99' posting some non-sequitur rant at the end of it. We complain because we want things to be better. We would like some respect, plz. We are journalists.

Photo with 2 notes

Today I covered the visit of a U.S. Senator, a stabbing, a shooting and an outbreak of bacterial meningitis — none related to the other. My bosses drive me crazy. I work too much. I think about unread EPA reports and unreported stories in my sleep. I play Scrabble because I can manipulate words without needing to put them into a sentence. I love reporting. I love stories. I hate it when people say, “The media.” I know that what I do is a service, a sacrifice, a requirement for informed democracy.
I do it for those hooligans in the photo.
I am a police reporter.
